Nature’s beauty - our 23 hours at Mohan’s Resort

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

This is an original article written and edited by Dr. Anoop Prathapan and first published on the 10th of September 2022.

A video that my friend Dr. Arya Mohan shared with me a couple of months back about her resort in Mekkarai, Tamil Nadu, ignited my interest in visiting it when I could, later. I made it happen, this Onam.

Driving 112.5 km from Kannammola Thiruvananthapuram, through the dense woodlands via thenmala, in the rainy first week of September 2022, me and my family reached Mohan’s resort, named after the owner Mr. Mohan B. Chacko, who apparently bought this property when his daughter Dr. Arya Mohan, presently a medical doctor by profession, was five years old or younger.

Wedged between the boscage of the Puliyarai forest division Tamil Nadu and the Ranni Forest Division, Kerala, stands this picturesque property shrouded by greenery all over. Spread over ten acres, the resort is not one of a classic kind but noticeably more of a homely one – something which you could rightly call a home away from home. We were allotted a comfortable, single-bedroom cottage on the eastern side of the property, from where the Adavi Nainar Dam was visible. The view of the facade from the cottage was bewildering.

The sunrise that I waited for since 5 am the next day, gave me an opportunity to click incredible shots after long.

They have an exclusive waterfall that a family could enjoy with all privacy. I had never been to a waterfall till date, and this was an adventure, the first of its kind for me.

The food at all times of the day was made to order and served as you would be at home. It was prepared good and it tasted very good.

They told me that they have another property uphill, 4.5km away from the one where we were put up, which was spread over a wider 120 acres and had a four-bedroom cottage. However, I could not visit it this time, due to some personal reasons.

Altogether, it was a tremendous experience at Mohan’s resort. We felt more like visiting Mr. Mohan and his family as his guests, rather than staying at a resort far from home.

The above picture has with me, Mr. Mohan and his daughter Dr. Arya Mohan.

I would undoubtedly call on this place anew, well equipped for more activities.
